Lawyer Arm Confirms! Compensation for Loss of Use and Vehicle Depreciation Can Be Claimed, but Warns That the OIC May Not Actually Be Able to Help

Lawyer Arm confirms that when a motor vehicle accident occurs, many people may understand that once the insurance company has taken responsibility for the vehicle repair costs, everything should be settled. In reality, however, the injured party may have the right to claim other damages resulting from the accident as well, particularly compensation for loss of use of the vehicle and vehicle depreciation, which are issues that many vehicle users still do not know how to claim. Lawyer Arm Supasit Supasit Siri of Wongsakorn Law Firm therefore wishes to offer some advice to the public that claiming compensation is not simply a matter of walking into an insurance company and asking for money. It is necessary to have appropriate information, facts, and evidence to support the amount of compensation being claimed in a reasonable manner.

Compensation for Loss of Use and Vehicle Depreciation Can Be Claimed, but It Must Be Claimed Strategically

Compensation for loss of use of a vehicle and vehicle depreciation are other issues that injured parties should pay attention to. When a vehicle is damaged in an accident and needs to be taken to a repair shop, this means that the vehicle owner cannot use the vehicle normally during that period. Therefore, the damage is not limited to the vehicle repair costs, but may also include losses resulting from the inability to use the vehicle.

However, making a claim does not mean that the injured party can simply determine any amount they wish. The injured party should gather evidence regarding the repair period, the use of the vehicle, and relevant facts in order to make the claim more substantiated. Therefore, if an injured party wishes to claim compensation for loss of use of the vehicle, they should prepare the necessary information from the outset and should not allow time to pass without taking action.

Another issue that Lawyer Arm considers important is vehicle depreciation. In reality, a vehicle that has been involved in an accident and subsequently repaired may have a different market value from a vehicle that has never been involved in an accident, even if it has been fully repaired and restored to normal working condition.

Lawyer Arm invites you to consider a simple example. If two vehicles are the same model, have a similar period of use, and are in similar overall condition, but one has a history of a collision and major repairs while the other has no accident history, many buyers will naturally take the vehicle’s history into consideration when making their decision, which may affect its sale price.

Therefore, injured parties should study their rights and properly prepare supporting information for their claims. The amount of damages that can be claimed must be determined based on the facts and evidence of each individual case. It is not the case that every vehicle will receive the same amount of compensation.

Misunderstanding Corrected: The OIC Does Not Provide Compensation. Its Actual Role Is to Act as a Mediator in Negotiations

Regarding the OIC, or the Office of Insurance Commission, Lawyer Arm believes that the public should first clearly understand the role of the agency before taking any action. The insurance complaint process involves details and facts that must be considered on a case by case basis. Discussions or mediation between the injured party and the insurance company therefore require clear information.

If the injured party does not yet understand what rights they have, how they should make a claim, or what documents they should prepare, consulting a legal expert before taking action may help them establish a more careful course of action. This is particularly important in cases involving disputes over the amount of compensation or when the insurance company refuses to accept the injured party’s claim.

“You Don’t Need a Lawyer” Is That Really True?

Lawyer Arm Supasit Siri of Wongsakorn Law Firm also reminds the public not to make a decision based simply on the statement, “You don’t need a lawyer.” Having a lawyer does not mean waiting until a case reaches court before seeking legal assistance. A lawyer can help from the stage of gathering facts, analyzing legal rights, determining an appropriate approach to making a claim, and preparing evidence for use in negotiations.

Since insurance companies already have personnel and legal experts looking after the company’s interests, injured parties should also take the time to understand their own rights. Successfully claiming compensation for loss of use of a vehicle or vehicle depreciation does not depend simply on saying, “I want this amount.” The claim must be supported by reasonable grounds and evidence.

For Compensation for Loss of Use and Vehicle Depreciation, It Is Best to Consult a Lawyer Before Filing a Complaint with the OIC

Finally, Lawyer Arm would like to remind everyone that when an accident occurs, do not assume that everything is settled simply because the insurance company has paid for the vehicle repairs. The damages suffered by the injured party may go beyond the vehicle repair costs. The loss of the opportunity to use the vehicle, as well as the potential impact on the vehicle’s value after an accident, are all matters that should be carefully considered.

If anyone is experiencing problems claiming compensation for loss of use of a vehicle or vehicle depreciation and is unsure of what steps to take, consulting a lawyer to assess the facts and determine an appropriate course of action before negotiating with the insurance company can help the injured party better understand and protect their rights.

An Important Milestone for an Intern from Chongqing, China, at Wongsakorn Law Firm

On August 26, 2026, Lawyer Nat, Ms. Nat Pholakarn, Assistant to the Company Director and an attorney at Wongsakorn Law Firm, presented a certificate of congratulations to Ms. Sarinee Saelao (Saly), a Chinese language intern from the Chinese Language and Literature program at Southwest University in Chongqing, China, on the occasion of completing her internship at Wongsakorn Law Firm.
After traveling from China to undertake her internship for approximately two months, Saly has completed her internship with Wongsakorn Law Firm. This marked another meaningful period filled with learning and new experiences, both in terms of work and everyday life in Thailand.

Throughout her internship, Saly was assigned to the Corporate Communications Department at Wongsakorn Law Firm and had the opportunity to take on a wide range of tasks beyond simply applying her language skills. These included translating articles for presentation through the firm’s website, translating Chinese language documents and contracts, as well as learning about work processes involving legal documents. These experiences allowed her to see how Chinese can be applied in real working contexts, particularly in a law firm where careful and precise communication and document translation are essential.

Another particularly interesting and important experience was the opportunity for Saly to work as a legal assistant, where she served as a Chinese language interpreter. She also had the opportunity to work as an interpreter in coordinating with Chinese owned companies operating businesses in Thailand. These experiences allowed her to learn how to use language in real life situations, experience working styles that differ from those in the classroom, and understand that being an interpreter or working in a language related field requires more than just the ability to translate languages. It also requires responsibility, accuracy, communication skills, and the ability to adapt appropriately to each situation.

Wongsakorn Law Firm would like to congratulate Saly on choosing to travel from China to Thailand to gain new experiences and on choosing to undertake her internship at Wongsakorn Law Firm. This has been a challenging path that is very different from a typical internship.
We sincerely hope that everything she has learned throughout these two months, including language skills, document work, legal work, working with others, as well as hands on experience, will help her further develop her studies and future career.

We wish Saly success at every step of her journey and hope that she will carry the experiences from this opportunity with her as an important foundation for her growth in the future.

Wongsakorn Law Firm Awards Certificates of Internship Completion to Chinese Language Interns from Thammasat University.

On 24 July 2026, Lawyer Arm Supasit Siri, Director and Attorney at Wongsakorn Law Firm, presented a Certificate of Congratulations to Ms. Amphon chaisodsai (Paul), an internship student from the Faculty of Liberal Arts, Chinese Language and Culture Program, Thammasat University, in recognition of her successful completion of her professional internship at Wongsakorn Law Firm.

Completing this internship marks another important milestone in Paul’s academic and professional journey. Unlike many of her peers, she chose a distinctive internship path by applying her knowledge of the Chinese language to the legal profession. This unique experience enabled her to develop practical skills in legal translation, cross-cultural communication, and legal practice—an opportunity that is both challenging and rarely available, providing a strong foundation for her future career.

Throughout her internship, Paul gained invaluable learning experiences beyond the classroom. While Chinese language students typically undertake internships in businesses or organizations focused on language and communication, her placement at a law firm provided a unique opportunity to experience the legal profession and judicial process firsthand.

During her internship, she observed legal proceedings, followed case management processes, and had the opportunity to serve as a Chinese interpreter in court, facilitating communication between the parties involved and the court during judicial proceedings. This was an exceptionally rare and valuable experience, as only a small number of students are afforded such opportunities. Even members of the general public seldom have the chance to witness real courtroom litigation firsthand, making this internship an extraordinary milestone in her academic and professional development.

In addition to serving as a Chinese interpreter, Paul was entrusted with a wide range of responsibilities throughout her internship. These included translating legal documents for the firm’s legal department, translating the firm’s articles and promotional content into Thai, English, and Chinese for publication on its website, translating quotations and business documents into Chinese, and assisting the Wongsakorn Law Firm team in communicating and coordinating with Chinese clients.

These diverse responsibilities enabled her to further strengthen her language proficiency while developing essential skills in communication, teamwork, and professional collaboration. More importantly, the internship provided her with valuable hands-on experience in applying Chinese language skills within both legal and business contexts, effectively bridging academic knowledge with real-world practice.

Wongsakorn Law Firm is truly honored to have had the opportunity to contribute to the professional development of a student from Thammasat University, one of Thailand’s leading academic institutions renowned for producing highly qualified graduates who continue to make meaningful contributions to society.

The First Step Toward a Successful Legal Career: Lawyer Arm Supasit Siri Presents Certificate of Congratulations to a Graduate of the 66th Practical Advocacy Training Program of the Lawyers Council of Thailand

On 24 July 2026, Lawyer Arm Supasit Siri, Managing Director and Attorney at Wongsakorn Law Firm, presented a certificate of congratulations to Ms. Chonthicha Kaewsananai (Mind), a trainee of the 66th Practical Advocacy Training Program organized by the Lawyers Council of Thailand under the Royal Patronage. She has been undertaking her practical training at Wongsakorn Law Firm since 2 February 2026 and is scheduled to complete the program on 3 August 2026. This marks another important milestone on her legal career journey and the beginning of her path toward becoming a professional lawyer with pride.

Throughout several months of practical training, Mind gained hands-on experience in legal practice through real cases, including preparing case documents, reviewing case files, assisting lawyers with legal work, and learning the systematic operations of a law firm. These valuable experiences cannot be acquired from textbooks alone. Practical training has given her a deeper understanding of the roles, responsibilities, professional duties, and ethical standards expected of legal practitioners.

On this occasion, Lawyer Arm Supasit Siri congratulated Mind and shared his thoughts on professional development. He emphasized that experience is the most valuable asset for anyone in the workplace. Working in different organizations allows people to gain diverse perspectives, recognize different strengths and management approaches, and compare them to identify the most suitable path for their own growth. In contrast, those who have only worked in one organization may not have had the opportunity to see the broader picture of the working world. Therefore, giving yourself the opportunity to learn through real-world experience is a worthwhile investment for the future.

Lawyer Arm also shared his views on practical training for law students and advocacy trainees. He said that choosing to complete an internship through real hands-on work is highly commendable because it reflects honesty and a genuine commitment to learning the profession. Although some people today choose to register for an internship in name only in order to complete the program without actually participating in practical training, simply obtaining a certificate without real experience can never replace the knowledge, understanding, and practical skills gained through hands-on work. The legal profession requires not only knowledge and professional competence, but also integrity and honesty from the very first step of one’s career.

Wongsakorn Law Firm would like to extend its sincere congratulations and appreciation to Ms. Chonthicha Kaewsananai (Mind) for choosing to learn through real-world experience and for successfully completing her practical training. We believe that the experience she has gained throughout her internship will serve as a strong foundation for building confidence, responsibility, and professionalism in her future legal career. No matter what challenges or working environments she may encounter, she will be well prepared to move forward with confidence and pride.

Finally, Wongsakorn Law Firm wishes Mind every success in both her personal life and professional career. We sincerely hope that the experience gained from this practical training will become the first stepping stone toward becoming an outstanding lawyer—one who possesses professional knowledge, competence, strong ethics, and unwavering integrity, and who will make meaningful contributions to society and the justice system in the future.

A Chulalongkorn Law Student Shares Her Internship Experience at Wongsakorn Law Firm

On July 17, 2026, Lawyer Arm Supasit Siri, Managing Director of Wongsakorn Law Firm, presented a certificate to Ms. Natnicha Pruittipongkul, also known as Mavy, a student from the Faculty of Law, Chulalongkorn University, upon the completion of her legal internship at the firm. Throughout her internship, Mavy had the opportunity to closely observe and learn about the work of lawyers, both in the office and through actual fieldwork. This experience was entirely different from studying in a classroom. In this column, we share an interview with Mayvie about her experience as an intern at Wongsakorn Law Firm and what it is like to intern at a law firm.

Interview with Mavy, a Legal Intern from the Faculty of Law, Chulalongkorn University

Q: Why did you choose to intern at a law firm?

A: “Legal work is actually very diverse. Many people may aim to work in the public sector, such as interning at a court or at a public prosecutor’s office. However, I wanted to try something different. To understand what happens before a case reaches the court, you need to intern at a law firm. That is how you learn about the procedures at this stage and understand how to proceed correctly when the case goes to court.”

Q: What did you do during your internship?

A: “I had the opportunity to do many different tasks during my internship. I began drafting complaints, writing motions, preparing sets of documents for filing a lawsuit, and drafting statements. I was able to do many things, which helped me realize that there is a great deal of preparation and many documents required before a case can be brought before the court.”

Q: What places did you have the opportunity to visit during your internship here?

A: “I had the opportunity to visit places I had never imagined I would be able to go. The first place I visited was where I paid my respects before the royal remains of the Queen Mother. It was a very meaningful opportunity for me, and I never thought I would have the chance to experience something like that. I also had the opportunity to go on a study visit to Parliament. Parliament is one of the most important institutions in the legal field because it forms the foundation of the lawmaking process. Since Parliament is responsible for enacting laws, we had the opportunity to observe the process at its source. I was also able to attend and observe a parliamentary debate and take a tour of the new Parliament building. I also had the opportunity to visit a police station to file a complaint. A client came to the law firm with a rather unfortunate case, so we accompanied the victim to file a formal complaint with the police. As many people may already know, filing a complaint with the police can be a time-consuming process. Handling a single complaint may take several hours, and in some cases, it can take up to ten hours because the police officers need to conduct an interview and record the statement. However, through my internship, I learned that the process can be made faster and that both the victim and our team can save time by preparing the information in advance, printing the relevant documents, and drafting a preliminary statement. This allows the police to gain an initial understanding of the case and proceed more quickly. I learned that preparing the information beforehand is extremely important. It not only helps speed up the process but also ensures that the details provided are complete.”

Q: What kind of case did you observe at the court?

A: “I went to court to observe the examination of witnesses in a defamation case. The two parties had previously been romantically involved. In this case, the man was the plaintiff who filed a lawsuit against the woman as the defendant. A well-intentioned person sent the man an audio recording of the woman’s conversation while she was being questioned by an investigation committee. This case made me more aware of the importance of communication. The fact that someone was able to send an audio recording made me realize that our conversations may be recorded, or that our voices may easily be altered and used in other ways. Therefore, I have become more careful about how I communicate.”

Wongsakorn Law Firm, led by Lawyer Arm Supasit Siri, firmly believes that giving students the opportunity to learn through real-world work experience helps develop high-quality legal professionals for society in the future. The legal profession requires more than knowledge of written laws. It also requires practical experience, analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work with people in real-life situations. Students who are interested in gaining legal work experience and learning closely about the work of lawyers may contact Wongsakorn Law Firm for further information and apply for an internship through the “Contact Us” channel.

Should the OIC Look Into It? Understanding the “Contact the Insurance Company Within 15 Days” Statement on Insurance Claim Forms and What It Means for Consumers

When a road traffic accident occurs, most policyholders are familiar with the standard procedure of waiting for an insurance surveyor or claims adjuster to arrive at the scene to assess the damage and issue a document commonly referred to by the public as a “claim form,” which is then used to facilitate vehicle repairs or the filing of an insurance claim.

However, many people may not have noticed that some insurance companies include the following statement on their claim forms:

“Please contact the insurance company within 15 days to negotiate and agree on the repair costs and compensation for the damages.”

In addition, the claim form contains the following notice:
“Important: This document is not a repair authorization.”
Although consisting of only a few lines, this statement may cause many consumers to misunderstand their legal rights.
In this article, Lawyer Arm Supasit Siri of Wongsakorn Law Firm invites members of the public and consumers to examine the issue from the perspectives of law and consumer rights, with the aim of helping them better understand their legal entitlements and avoid unnecessarily forfeiting their rights.

What Role Does the Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) Play in the Insurance Industry?

The Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) is the regulatory authority responsible for supervising and promoting the insurance industry. Its role is to ensure that insurance businesses operate in compliance with the law and to foster public confidence in the insurance sector.

In practice, however, when a road traffic accident occurs, an insurance company’s surveyor will inspect the circumstances of the accident and prepare the relevant documentation for reporting the damage in accordance with the company’s claims procedures.

Nevertheless, the assessment of damages, the determination of liability, and the payment of insurance indemnity must still be based on the facts of the case, the terms and conditions of the insurance policy, and the applicable laws.
What Does the Statement “Please Contact the Insurance Company Within 15 Days to Reach an Agreement on the Repair Costs and the Amount of Damages” Mean?
Based on Wongsakorn Law Firm’s practical experience, many members of the public and consumers mistakenly believe that if they fail to contact the insurance company within 15 days, they will immediately lose their right to claim compensation.

Such a misunderstanding may cause consumers unnecessary concern or prompt them to take action before they have fully understood their legal rights.

In the view of Lawyer Arm Supasit Siri, this statement should be communicated more clearly to prevent the public from misunderstanding their legal rights. It is also important to distinguish between an insurance company’s internal claims procedures and a policyholder’s legal right to seek compensation, as these may constitute two separate legal issues.
What Is an Insurance Claim Form?

A claim form, or damage assessment document, is a document issued by an insurance company after conducting a preliminary assessment of the damage. It is used to support the subsequent claims process or other related procedures.

However, the format and wording of such documents may vary from one insurance company to another.

Policyholders should therefore carefully read all the details before signing any document or taking any action based on it.

If any part of the document is unclear, they should seek clarification from the insurance company or obtain advice from a legal professional before proceeding.

Key Information Consumers Should Know After a Road Traffic Accident
After a road traffic accident, it is important not only to have your vehicle repaired but also to protect your legal rights. This includes:

  • Obtaining copies of all relevant documents;
  • Carefully reading every statement on the insurance claim form;
  • Seeking clarification if any part of the document is unclear;
  • Preserving all evidence and records relating to the accident;
  • Reviewing the terms and conditions of your insurance policy.

Having a clear understanding of your legal rights from the outset can help minimize the risk of future disputes.

One key difference between insurance companies and consumers is that consumers often do not have legal representation.

Lawyer Arm Supasit Siri is of the view that one important difference between consumers and business organizations is that many organizations have in-house legal departments or legal counsel to provide ongoing legal support for their operations.

By contrast, most members of the public may be experiencing a road traffic accident for the first time and may therefore be unfamiliar with the procedures involved, their legal rights, or the legal implications of the documents they receive.

For this reason, obtaining relevant information or seeking advice from a legal professional before making important decisions is one way consumers can better protect their legal rights and interests.

What Should You Do If You Have Questions About Your Rights?
If a policyholder has questions regarding:

  • the insurance claim form;
  • vehicle repairs;
  • a denial of liability;
  • the payment of insurance indemnity; or
  • any statements or wording contained in documents issued by the insurance company.

As a first step, you should seek clarification from the insurance company to ensure that you fully understand the relevant documents and procedures.

If you still have questions about your legal rights, or believe that the proposed course of action may affect your rights or interests, consulting a lawyer is another option. Doing so can help you better understand the applicable law and make informed and well-considered decisions.
Purchasing insurance is not merely about paying insurance premiums. It also means understanding your rights and obligations when unexpected events occur.

In the view of Lawyer Arm Supasit Siri, any wording on an insurance claim form that may cause consumers to misunderstand their rights should be communicated clearly and accurately. This helps ensure that members of the public can exercise their legal rights correctly and reduces the risk of losing those rights due to misunderstanding.

If you are involved in a dispute with an insurance company—whether it concerns an insurance claim form, a refusal to authorize repairs, an insurance indemnity claim, or questions regarding a policyholder’s legal rights—Wongsakorn Law Firm is available to provide legal advice, assess your case, develop an appropriate legal strategy, and assist you in pursuing compensation from the insurance company in accordance with the law.
